For people who study history of the great lakes, one person buried in this cemetery is quite note worthy.  Harry Pederson, was the captain of the ship Eastland.  On July 25, 1915, the Eastland capsized in the Chicago River with over 800 lives lost.  This tragedy has largely gone forgotten even though more lives were lost in this accident than in the famous Chicago fire.  Another tragedy to compare to is that of the Titanic.  Captain Pederson and the first mate Delvin Fisher, a former resident of Berrien County, initially took the brunt of the accusations, but were later cleared of any wrong doing.
