The land for Portage Prairie Cemetery was deeded to the Portage Prairie Cemetery Board from the Portage Prairie United Methodist Church in the 1930’s.  Up until that point, the cemetery was owned and operated by the church, itself.  The first burial was that of Margaret Rough, who was one of the founding members of the church.
