RICKERMAN / SWEM CEMETERY
(Galien Township)
Michigan USA
Jurisdiction:  Galien Township

Location: Rickerman Road 1 ½ Mile South of US 12

Cemetery Governing Body:  Galien Township

Rickerman/Swem Cemetery is another example of a cemetery changing names depending on who the current property owner is.  One grave belonging to a man named Swem was discovered and he was buried on his own land, which belonged to Elwood Rickerman in 1975.  The tombstone was kept in the barn, but the barn was destroyed by fire caused by a lightning strike.  Mr. Swem was a Civil War Veteran and rumor has it that he took ill with fever during the war period and died at home.  It is unknown if any other burials existed besides Mr. Swem but the cemetery is still referred to as Rickerman/Swem Cemetery.
